The Importance of a Unique Selling Point in Network Marketing
Beware of the network marketing opportunity that promises a 100% no-fail system that will have you making money within 24 hours. I am sure you have seen offers for a pre-built website, along with pre-written ads and emails to drive targeted leads to your turn-key money machine. But, do these businesses opportunities really work?
Imagine you are walking through a shopping mall and you see store after store with the exact same products set up in the exact same displays, being sold for the exact same price. If you happen to own the store right next to the entrance, you just might be able to sell some products. But, what if you are the 5th store down the hall? Or the 15? Or the 30th? Chances are you won’t find very many customers walking through your door.
Now, I am not knocking the idea of a winning system. If you are the only McDonald’s in town, you will definitely sell burgers. But, if you are one of 100 McDonald’s in town, how many burgers will you sell? There are a lot of reasons you don’t want to go with a pre-fab, cookie cutter network marketing business. First of all, the search engines hate duplicate site content. So, the likelihood of your site placing well in searches is slim to none. The same goes for Google Adwords. If you aren’t unique, it will be difficult for your potential customers to find you.
To make matters worse, if you are also using canned ads and emails to try to drive traffic to your site, the chances are, your leads will have already heard the pitch and will correctly assume they have already been there, done that, and pass on to the next opportunity. I understand the appeal of a canned system. It is seductive. Who in his right mind wouldn’t prefer to make money with no effort instead of having to work for it? But, don’t forget the old adage: if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
So, what’s the answer? In order to be a successful network marketer, you have to have a unique selling point, and your most important selling point is you! You see, those ads are right. The person who developed that system, the one who came up with the original idea, did make money. She did succeed. In fact, the next several people who signed up under her probably made money too. The ads and emails and articles and press releases — they all worked the first time, and the next several times. But, after a while, the well runs dry.
It’s also difficult to feel passionate about someone else’s material. If you want to be truly excited about something, you have to be fully engaged. The best way to do that is to create your own way, to be yourself. You need to capitalize on your individuality and sell your own unique features. By all means, take the parts of the system that work for you, but at least add your own twist to them, make sure your personality shines through. In order to be a success, you need to start by being yourself.
